GuideStar automatically creates a Nonprofit Profile for 501(c) organizations registered with the IRS. If, however, your organization has only recently received tax-exempt status from the IRS, it may not be in our database yet.

To be manually listed early, please send the following to

  • Letter of Determination (all pages) issued by the IRS no more than six months ago - No alternative documents are acceptable.

Please do not send your Employer Identification Number (EIN) issuance letter. Obtaining an EIN does not grant federal 501(c) status to nonprofit organizations.

You must be a registered GuideStar user to request having your organization listed on GuideStar. Please see the Create a GuideStar Account help article before sending your request.

Once received, we will review the documents and follow up as quickly as possible. You will be notified of your application's status after review. If approved, GuideStar imports new nonprofit organizations each Monday morning unless otherwise stated. If you receive an approval notification, please visit after 3:00 PM EST the following Monday to view your organization's listing.

Important Note

If your organization is manually listed on GuideStar, it will not be verified against IRS files until your organization appears on the IRS Business Master File and/or Publication 78.
